Remembering 9/11

My boy was just three years old when this happened. Here in Arizona we are a world away but it touched us all so profoundly. Isaac and I took a day off from school work to go to the Arizona memorial for 9/11. He asked me what I remembered most from that time. I told him. I had always heard my parents and their friends speaking of what they were doing when Kennedy was
sassinated or when Martin Luther King was assassinated. I can tell you exactly where I was and what I was doing when the attacks occurred it is like the US stopped. I told him of the planes afterwards. The eerie silence looking up in the sky because no planes except military planes were flying over.

I was blessed not to have lost anyone from that day. I know many MANY people who did and now cyber friends who were there.

It was sooo surreal to go to the memorial today it was rows and rows of flags and each flag had a tag that had the picture, name, age, profession and where they were when they died. Isaac caught on quickly that if there was a stuffed animal it meant that it was a child. He began to go to all the child ones. Most were on planes that day. Isaac said to me. Gosh mom they were on vacation, coming back from fun, or going to fun and now they are dead. I love it when Isaac gets these profound moments. We then came up to a little girl age 3. I don't know why but it literally gasped and said she was Julia's age...Isaac said I was her age when she died. I just welled up with tears. I couldn't believe it. Man...I am welling up just thinking about it. I couldn't imagine being a mother to a child on that plane. What did they say to their children? What HAD to have been going through their minds!

Here are a few shots from the memorial.

Wow...where has time gone. I made a commitment to write in this blog weekly and it seems that I can't seem to keep up with it.

We are all good! We have already pulled Julia from the public schools speech program. It didn't take us long to realize it was not a good fit for Miss Julia Grace. So we have put her into Sweetwater Bay 5 half days a week. She loves it there and it gives me one on one time with Isaac. She speaks frequently of a little boy named Dakota and a boy named Skundan (sp). Leave it to my princess to be a tom boy! She still talks as though Miss Stacey only spends her time with Julia playing and painting. I bet the other kids are jealous (haha wink wink)

Isaac is well. He is currently learning how America was discovered. We have started some bible lessons and he is doing some much needed work on math facts. Larry is still giving him his algebra lessons on top of that. He is doing a reading study on "The Trumpet of the Swan". Nice to see him reading more literature this year and not just the fantastical stuff. He loves to draw but hates to write. So something else we are focussing on! ha! He continues to learn more about JFK and will start researching the Cuban Missile Crisis this week. I love stuff that we can delve into because he is homeschooled.

Larry continues to re-acclimate himself to the new job. He finished the class he needed to get totally recertified but now the school district is making him take (basically the same) class through the district. He has to do that twice a week from 4-8pm. He is not happy about it. That is alot of expectation on a teacher that works very hard all day.

I am still trying to get used to having no sleep every other monday. Nights are not easy but worth it for sure. I am talking to someone about job sharing that shift so maybe I can get home before the sun comes up. We shall see!

I had a really great birthday on the 7th. My mother took Angie, Larry and myself out to lunch and it was really yummy. My dad and Carol stayed with the kids so we could have a nice time "away". Then Mom took me shopping for (much needed) tennis shoes. Then my dad and Carol took us all out to dinner (mexican of course) it was also really nice. Nice conversation and good food! The kids were even behaved.

The children made me cupcakes and cleaned the house (with Larry's help of course) all while I was at work. Julia was so excited that she made them that she had to wake me at 8am to show me. I had worked the night prior so that was a bit early for me. So for breakfast we had cupcakes (of dupdakes and jul says). The kids also gave me pink roses and made me little wooden plaques that they painted for me. Anyone who knows me knows that these are my favorite gifts the kind that the kids make.

However, my husband didn't feel the same way so my big gift was a new cell phone one of those fancy touch kind. I won't know what to do with myself. I have never had something so fancy in all my life! ha!

Believe it or not I don't have any pictures to share this week. I will work on that though! ha! Tune in next time for pictures ha!

I don't normally use this board to take political stances but I saw this and loved it so I had to post it! ha! Sorry to all of my Republican friends I still adore you!
